Franchise remains 'really important' IP for Take-Two

BioShock franchise has sold 25m copies

The BioShock franchise has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide, Take-Two’s CEO has revealed.

Speaking at the Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in New York, as reported by GameSpot, Strauss Zelnick said the latest release in the series, BioShock Infinite, had sold 11m copies.

He said the franchise remained a “really important” IP for the company.

Despite the success of BioShock Infinite, the series’ lead developer Irrational Games laid off all but 15 staff in February last year. Creative director Ken Levine said he was “winding down Irrational Games as you know it”, and starting what he called a “small, more entrepreneurial endeavour”.

Development of the BioShock IP was handed over to 2K. Irrational itself is now focusing on narrative driven games that will be released digitally.
