Gears of War creator opens up on his decision to leave Epic

Bleszinski: People get jaded in this business

Cliff Bleszinski says he thought he was finished with the game industry after he left Epic in 2012.

Speaking to Destructoid, he said some people talented people at the studio had become jaded, as well as gamers themselves. He stressed he was not trying to insult anyone at Epic, but that “people get jaded in this business”.

"It was a combination of gamers feeling jaded, as well as working with some very talented people who were also very jaded," said Bleszinski.

"I could pitch the most amazing idea to anybody back when I was at Epic toward the end, and they’d be like ‘I don’t buy it.’ I don’t mean to slag anyone, but people get jaded in this business."

Bleszinski returned to the game industry last year to start his own studio, Boss Key Productions, alongside Guerrilla Games co-founder Arjan Brussee. Last week the developer revealed its first title, arena shooter LawBreakers.
