Independent studio Capybara Games has announced another delay for Below, its upcoming Xbox One and PC adventure game.
The title was originally due for release this summer, but despite striving to meet the deadline the team has decided it isn’t ready. Furthermore, it plans to avoid releasing any updates until Below is closer to completion.
“Instead of giving you a new, loose release window, we will be going dark while we take the time that we need to complete Below without compromise,” the studio wrote on its blog. “The next time you see a major Below update, that means our game h”as a firm release date, which we’ll share.
“Making games is hard but rewarding work. Accepting, even after this long development, that the game needs more time is difficult, but it’s important that we are honest with ourselves as creators, and with you, the players.”
The team thanked fans for its support and promised to keep working on Below “until it is truly ready”.
Below was originally announced at Xbox’s E3 2013 press conference as one of the first indie titles in the works for Xbox One, and had already been in production for several years.
The regular references in the blog post to the game living up to expectations and Capybara’s standards may partially stem from the mixed reception Hello Games has seen with the launch of No Man’s Sky. With consumer hopes for long-in-development games so high, Capybara may wish to avoid the same hostility.
