CD Projekt Red have published an open letter via Twitter saying that they are currently being extorted over stolen files relating to their Cyberpunk 2077.
The tweet from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer says that the items, which are "largely unrepresentative to the current vision" for Cyberpunk 2077. The internal files also include other CD Projekt Red documents but the details of them have not been disclosed.
The developer has also said that they have been held to ransom for the return of the documents and that authorities will be informed. They have also said that any information regarding the game and its release will come from CD Projekt Red, so any leaked information might spoil your enjoyement of the game.
There has been no indication about how these files were obtained, whether through hacking, personal theft or any other means. No concerns have yet been raised over data that the company holds.
Earlier this year, esports platform Esports Network ESEA, was given a ransom demand for files stolen by hackers and both the Xbox Live and Playstation Network have been subject to cyber attacks in the past.
Cyberpunk 2077 is based on the table top game of the same name and CD Projekt Red have said that more information on the game will be coming during 2017.
