The Witcher III creator CD Projekt Red has backed the need for console and PC users to be able to freely play together.
Following the news that Rocket League developer Psyonix had worked out a method to allow Xbox One and PS4 owners to enter the same online matches, CDPR CEO Marcin Iwi?ski confirmed that the studio was just waiting for the ‘OK’ to enable Xbox-PlayStation cross-play in upcoming spin-off Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
"Microsoft already confirmed Gwent's cross-play feature not only between Xbox One and PC, but also other consoles if they allow it,” Iwi?ski told IGN.
“We do have a technical solution in place for PS4 and would love to add Sony’s platform to cross-play at the start of open beta. All we need is a green light from Sony."
Iwi?ski added his hope that ‘Rocket League paves the way’ for cross-console multiplayer, and asked other developers to campaign for compatibility between the two consoles, as well as PC.
"At the end of the day, this is for the players, isn't it?" he said.
