Oculus has officially unveiled the consumer version of the Oculus Rift headset.
Taking to the stage, CEO Brendan Iribe explained that the virtual reality firm's ambition with the hardware was to "deliver the magic of presence", by taking gaming away from 2D surfaces and instead immersing the player into the game almost completely.
The Rift features two OLED screens that Iribe said will deliver images at low persistence, with no motion blur. It will also feature a wide field of view and the new constellation tracking system, which can precisely track a player's position. The headset will also feature its own integrated audio system that will provide 360 degree spatial sound. Iribe explained that getting audio right is a "critical component" of VR, and is just as important as the visuals.
Each headset will also include an Xbox One controller and adapter. Oculus is also currently working on its own protoype motion controllers called the Oculus Touch.
