Ambiera has launched a new update for its CopperCube game engine, complete with a slew of additions and improvements.

The non-programmer-friendly tool is now up to version 5.4, which is free for users to download.

Among the headline additions is heightmap import support for terrain, which allows devs to sculpt 3D world terrain with external software before bringing the heightmaps into CopperCube. Textures and grass can be automatically applied to imported terrain.

An integrated texture packer has also been added. Notable for creators using 3D models not designed for use in games, the tool condenses all textures on a model into a single package, improving performance.

Those building using WebGL can now compress their files for the platform, too. The system reduces file size by up to 80 per cent, boosting download and start-up time.

In-game, the implementation of CopperCube’s first-person shooter camera has been tweaked, resulting in smoother movement on both mobile and PC platforms.
