Port of DS audio tech features up to 10x compression

CRI reveals Sound Streamer for iPhone

CRI is to ported its CRI Vibe DS sound middleware to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Now called CRI Sound Streamer for iPhone (or iKyuseishu in Japanese), the tech is a full audio engine featuring multistreaming, loop and field playback, control over volume and panning and support for effects such as delay and flanger.

Sound Streamer for iPhone has particular use in helping developers port DS titles to iPhone, says the company, but its compression abilities – which can reduce the size of audio files by up to ten times – means that rich games can be delivered within the App Store’s 10mb limit on direct-to-iPhone downloads.

CRI’s Japanese office is currently seeking beta partners to help test the tech. More information can be found at the CRI website.
