CRI Vibe breaks 100 SKU barrier

Japanese DS streaming technology proving popular with developers
Publish date:

CRI Middleware's CRI Vibe - known as Kyuuseishu in Japanese - has now been used in over 100 DS SKUs, the company has announced.

Based on the company's hugely successful ADX codec, CRI Vibe is a DS-specific streaming audio system designed to reduce the size of sound and music assets while simultaneously improving quality when compared to the DS' stock codec.

While the tech is mostly in use by Japanese companies - it powers much of Square Enix's DS output, and is used in Nintendo's Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat? - a number of those 100 titles have been done by Western developers, including Disney Interactive's High School Musical 3 and EA's The Simpsons Game.
