Crystal Dynamics celebrates 25th birthday with video message

Happy birthday, Crystal Dynamics! The studio turns 25 this week, with an impressive legacy of games under its belt. By way of celebration, it has released a short video from some of the key members of the development team talking about its storied past. A past that includes one of this writers’ favourite game series of all time, Legacy of Kain. RIP.

In the video the studio reflects on the challenge of being handed access to the Tomb Raider franchise, and how exciting it was to reinvent it for a new audience. There’s also discussion about what it takes to be a member of the Crystal Dynamics team, which is great insight for anyone thinking of applying for the many open positions at the developer. The key here being a passion for games and a passion for the franchises. Follow that advice and you could be working on the Avengers game.

Speaking of The Avengers, the team let the iron mask slip slightly as it broke the silence about the upcoming project. As you’d expect, everyone is very excited to show us what they’re working on and they’re under a lot of pressure to deliver something that can convincingly exist alongside the incredibly popular films.

“We exist thanks to the generosity and love our amazing players show us; and it’s a true privilege to do what we do for what we feel are the best fans out there. So following their example, we are always looking for meaningful ways to give back to those in need and share our good fortune,” added Scot Amos, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “Crystal exists to make the best games possible… be it within our legacy of Tomb Raider or our future with the Avengers project, we do this because we love making people happy. And that’s what giving is all about.”

Check out the full video for more, and be sure to wish the studio many happy returns. Honestly, they grow us so fast…
