German studio's Crysis titles on Valve's download service

Crytek signs for Steam

Crytek is the latest independent developer to sign up and use Valve’s Steam digital distribution platform.

The original Crysis and upcoming game Crysis Warhead will be sold on the platform – it’s the first time EA published games (Crysis is signed to EA Partners, which also handles Valve’s recent releases) have been put on the service.

However rather than this be a move by Electronic Arts to embrace Steam, seen by many as the leading digital distribution platform, this seems to be a choice driven by independent studio Crytek.

"The millions of gamers logging into Steam every week to play today’s best PC games are going to love Crysis Warhead," said Avni Yerli, MD at Crytek.

"Crytek Hungary has done a terrific job creating this new experience while optimizing CryEngine 2, and we’re looking forward to delivering it and the original Crysis as our first offerings on Steam."

Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve, added: "Crytek is one of the industry’s great success stories, emerging new technology and talent.

"Crysis is one of today’s leading PC franchises and delivering the original and Crysis Warhead via Steam is landmark for the platform."
