The Dare to be Digital 2015 team talks to Develop about working on their entry title Steal Everything

What's your game?
Steal Everything is an asymmetrical multiplayer stealth game that pits a team of thieves against a sole security guard, known as the Overseer. The Overseer will monitor camera feeds that they can switch between and can control a drone to track the thieves’ movement, whilst creating traps and hazards (e.g. turrets and lasers) in a dungeon master-like role.

The thieves’ aim will be to stealthily roam around the map attempting to steal as much as possible, avoiding both the gaze of the Overseer and their traps with the aid of equipment such as a grappling hook and smoke grenades.

What has the Dare experience been like?
Developing a game from scratch in nine weeks and working together as a new team has definitely been a challenging experience. Thankfully, we gelled well as a team and despite the problems we encountered along the way we’ve definitely made very significant progress and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved as a whole. 

Our project was a very ambitious one, and as such everyone has been constantly hard at work to try and achieve the vision we were shooting for with our game. We’re happy we were able to be a part of the competition and be among some of the amazing games being shown this year.

What have you learned from Dare?
We learnt how to better work on projects with a larger team size with some members working from remote locations, as it wasn’t possible for us all to meet constantly. Our organisation has also greatly improved and we’ve learned how to make effective use of services like Source Control, Slack and Trello to keep the whole team on top of things and be as efficient as possible.

Are you looking forward to ProtoPlay?
Absolutely! We’re very excited to get the chance to be able to show off our game and we hope everyone will find our game to be as fun as we think it is – there’s also are going to be a few prizes for the winners of our games.

We‘re also looking forward to seeing our fellow teams’ games in action. There have been some really good entries this year and we’re eager to see some in person.

What are your ambitions after Dare?
We’re going to be continuing development on Steal Everything, with hopes of fully finish the game and potentially releasing it on various platforms.
