As buzz builds for the upcoming BAFTA awards night

Dare To Be Digital 2010 registration open

The 2010 Dare to be Digital game design contest is ready to commence, with event organisers now calling for submissions.

The competition sees teams of arts and science students create working game prototypes under the watchful eye of industry design veterans and publisher execs.

Last year’s competition awarded three finalists £2,500 in hand at Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Now The Butterflyers, Gentlemen of Fortune and Pixel Pirates each have a chance to win the coveted Ones To Watch BAFTA prize on February 21.

Students are encouraged to form a team of five and apply via the Dare To Be Digital Website. Qualifying students will be taken to Abertay University to undergo an intensive development course, while regional selection events will be held in different cities across the UK, India, China and Norway.

“Many of our past competitors have gone on to achieve great things in industry or even publish their game,” said Dare Project Manager Elaine Russell.

“Even if you don’t have a team you should visit the Dare website to find out how you can be put in touch with other potential entrants and form a team entry. Some of the most successful teams are ones where the members have found each other for the first time to enter the event.”
