Standalone zombie game continues to rack up downloads on Steam Early Access

DayZ sells 172,500 copies in one day

Ultra-realistic zombie title DayZ has sold 172,500 copies in its first 24 hours.

This figure was announced by game developer Bohemia’s CEO Mark Spanel via hisown blog. In its first 12 hours, the game was bought an impressive 88,000 times.

DayZ was made available on Steam as an Early Access title yesterday. It is very much a work in progress, still being in early alpha stage, with 142,403 bugs being found since it released. “Work ahead: hard,” said Spanel.

This is the first time that the zombie title has been released as a standalone game, previously being a mod for military shooter Arma 2.
