During the busy festive period, EA Canada came out on top thanks to Fifa 14, which appeared on both last-gen and current-gen consoles.

EA Canada trumped Infinity Ward’s return to the Call of Duty series it made famous with Call of Duty: Ghosts, while DICE came in 3rd following the release of Battlefield 4.

Three UK developers made it into the top 20, including Traveller’s Tales, Rockstar North and Scottish outfit 4J Studios.

The most prevalent country featured in the top 20 was Japan, beating the likes of Canada and the US with five studios represented. These companies were Nintendo, Polyphony Digital, Game Freak, Sony Computer Entertainment and Yuke’s.

Publisher-owned companies also dominated the list, with just four independent firms making it into the top 20.
