Jay Wilson to stay at Blizzard in undetermined role

Diablo III game director steps down

The game director for fantasy action RPG Diablo III has stepped down from his role on the project.

Jay Wilson, who has worked on the title for more than seven years, said he had made the decision to move away from the project as he wanted to work on something new.

Wilson will be staying on at Blizzard in an as yet undetermined role, and will be slowly transitioned away from Diablo III over the next few weeks while a replacement is found.

“I recently celebrated my seven-year anniversary working on Diablo III, and while it’s been one of the most challenging and rewarding periods of my life, I’ve reached a point creatively where I’m looking forward to working on something new,” he said.

“The powers that be at Blizzard have been gracious enough to give me that opportunity. Over the course of the next several weeks, I will be moving off of the Diablo III project and transitioning elsewhere within Blizzard. This decision was not an easy one for me, and not one I made quickly, but ultimately it’s what I feel is right."

Wilson assured fans that his departure would not impact negatively on Blizzard’s ongoing support for Diablo III, and the studio has lots of things planned for the future with business carrying on as usual.
