The trouble with benchmarks is that they often fail to test how users really interact with devices. What use is a high score in a particular benchmark, if it doesn’t reflect how games will perform on the platform?

To fix that, Intel has developed an Android game called Icy Rocks, which can be used to test the performance of different Android devices and platforms. The game features catapulting rocks and snowflakes, which gradually increase in number while the game’s performance is measured. In benchmark mode, everything is automatic so you can sit back with a hot chocolate and enjoy the chilly battle from the sidelines.

You can use Icy Rocks to get a better understanding of the real performance of your test platforms, which can in turn help you to understand your own game’s potential.

Find out more and download Icy Rocks here. Remember to check out the Android section of the Intel® Developer Zone for more resources to help you build and optimise your Android apps.
