E3 2014: Nintendo teases ‘vast’ new Legend of Zelda for Wii U

Nintendo has teased a "vast" new Legend of Zelda game currently in development for the Wii U.

During its Nintendo Direct showcase, Eiji Aonuma said Nintendo wanted to create a vast new world that wasn’t possible to make on its consoles in the past.

Rather than having new areas with set boundaries, the whole game will be connected seamlessly.

Footage of the game showed an impressive visual style similar to that shown in Skyward Sword.

"Puzzle solving in this games begins the moment the player decides where they want to go, how they get there and what they’ll do there when they arrive," he said.

"This is a clean break from the past."

He added the new approach to design would "create opportunities for new experiences" compared to past entries in the long-running series.

The Legend of Zelda for Wii U is currently slated for release in 2015.

No further details were available at this point in the presentation.
