EA buys Phenomic

German studio Phenomic, the creator of series The Settlers and SpellForce, has been snapped up by Electronic Arts.

Now called EA Phenomic, the company will become a specialist in RTS titles for console, PC and online and is already working on a new game for its new owner.

Phenomic is the latest EA Europe studio, joining a stable that includes EA UK and will soon be officially joined by Swedish Battlefield-maker Dice. The management team will continue in theircurrent roles, including managing director Boris Kunkel, Dirk Ringe and Volker Wertich, creator of the Settlers series and the studio's creative director. The studio will also stay put in Ingelheim.

"The team at Phenomic is an outstanding group of developers," said Paul Lee, president of EA's Worldwide Studios. "Their track record for building quality RTS games and creating original IP is impressive, and we share a strong common vision for the future of the strategy gaming market.

EA Tiburon gets Woods
