For the second year running, EA has invited a group of budding female devs to its HQ to give them a taste of the games industry.

20 women from the 10th and 11th grades will participate in a seven-week course, beginning with introductions to the Scratch and Python programming languages in the first two weeks.

In week three, the group will be taught about the relationship of art to game design through ‘object-orientated programming’, before moving on to study AI’s use in robotics in week four.

Week six will cover UX design from the perspective of web programming, before the students produce their final coding projects in the last week.

Other opportunities during the course will include guest speakers, visits to nearby tech firms and one-on-one mentoring from leading female members of the games industry.

“At EA, we want to leverage the power of play and the fun of gaming to help close the gender gap in technology, so we’re proud to welcome Girls Who Code to our headquarters for a seven-week summer immersion program for the second straight year,” said David Kim, EA’s head of global diversity inclusion and CSR.
