Square Enix-owned studio Eidos Montreal has revealed it is working on its own game engine for future titles.
The Dawn Engine is based on a heavily modified version of the Glacier 2 engine, created by sister studio and Hitman developer IO Interactive. The new tech allows for real-time physics, advanced AI programming and improved rendering capabilities.
The technology will be the "cornerstone" of the upcoming Deus Ex Universe projects, according to the studio. Announced in October 2013, Deus Ex Universe is both an Xbox One, PS4 and PC follow-up to the excellent Deus Ex: Human Revolution, plus a series of related projects for tablets, smartphones, books and more.
Eidos Montreal is currently hiring people to help develop the Dawn Engine as well as the games it will power, with several positions listed on the studio's jobs page.
