Elder Scrolls III and IV lead designer Ken Rolston has joined Hinterland as designer-in-residence.

The industry veteran will help with work on the new studio’s debut title The Long Dark, a first-person survival game.

Rolston has had a lengthy career in games, leading design on RPGs such as Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The designer has also worked on titles such as Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning during his time at Big Huge Games.

"We’re formalising Ken’s contribution to The Long Dark, and he has graciously accepted to take on the role of designer-in-residence at Hinterland," Hinterland founder Raphael van Lierop, founder told IGN.

"In this capacity, Ken will support us and guide us as we wrestle with the formidable design challenges we’re undertaking to live up to our grand ambitions for The Long Dark – a high-quality, open-world, sandbox survival simulation with a compelling narrative, created by a small independent studio without the backing or support of a major publisher."
