Five finalists to have their games exhibited on the show floor

ESA to hold E3 student dev contest

The Entertainment Software Association is to hold a new game development competition culminating in a showing at the E3 expo in June.

The contest is open to students at colleges and universities across the US, with each higher education institution allowed to submit one game each to represent it.

To enter, schools must submit story details and content assets from a playable game, which will then be judged by a panel of industry and media professionals.

Five games will be selected as finalists, and will be offered the chance to present their games on the exhibition floor at E3, as well as the opportunity to network with developers and other industry professionals during the show.

The winner will be announced during the show.

The ESA will start taking submissions from March 15th, with the deadline for applications on April 19th.

The finalists of the contest will be revealed on May 10th.

"The collegiate game competition is an important step for the ESA in encouraging and rewarding students pursuing careers in video game development", said ESA CEO Mike Gallagher.

"Our learning institutions house so much innovation and talent that will shape the future of our industry and ESA intends to honour student achievement and provide a deserved spotlight at E3."
