Namco has hired Apple’s ex-iPhone games designer Jonathan Kromrey to head-up the Japanese publisher’s ‘Apple Games’ division.
Namco Networks, the mobile and casual arm of the company, has enlisted Kromrey to build new game franchises, oversee research and manage internal teams for Namco’s ongoing push into the iPhone space.
Kromrey said he was “excited” by the direction Namco is taking.
“We are preparing to usher in a new generation of games that capitalize on changing consumer preferences, like ‘anywhere’ gaming and social games,” he said.
“With the iPhone and iPod Touch, Apple has provided truly innovative platforms and is challenging developers to push these devices to their limits. I’m going to ensure that Namco answers that challenge and exceeds consumers’ expectations.”
Kromrey said he wants to focus Namco Network’s dev teams on taking full advantage of the iPhone’s touch-screen, graphical, voice-recognition and accelerometer capabilities.
“While working at Apple, I was amazed by the renewed passion for gaming that seemed to grow by the day,” Kromrey added.
“The gaming community has never been broader, both in terms of the types of games being played Namco has hired Apple’s ex-iPhone games designer Jonathan Kromrey to head-up the Japanese and the audience. This is a great time to be developing games for Apple’s devices.”
