An independent studio formed entirely of ex-Ensemble employees has appointed Halo Wars lead designer Dave Pottinger.
Dallas-based Bonfire Studios announced that Pottinger will serve as the company’s director of technology, as the studio itself ramps up production on various unannounced projects.
Pottinger, who has already started his tenure at Bonfire, was one of the Ensemble workforce cut loose. His, and Ensemble’s, final project was the Xbox 360 RTS Halo Wars.
He will now be working closely with with other former Ensemble staff including lead animator Woody Smith, lead programmer Marc Hanson, concept artist Phil Wohr and design director Bill Jackson.
“Bonfire is a team full of old friends that I am looking forward to working with again,” said Pottinger.
Bonfire CEO David Rippy welcomed his arrival: “As director of technology and lead designer on Halo Wars, Pottinger really delivered on AAA quality and that’s been the goal of Bonfire from day one.
“We know he’ll be a perfect fit with our company culture and be a great asset as we position the company for growth in 2010 and beyond.”
