A collection of developers from defunct PlayStation studios Sony Liverpool and Evolution have set up their own company.

Fabrik is staffed by former members of both the Wipeout and Motorstorm developers, and based in Manchester hub The Sharp Project. Other members of the team have worked at the likes of EA and Blast Furnace.

“Fabrik is a unique independent studio and publisher,” said CEO Graeme Ankers. “We have secured some of the best talent in the world who have worked across gaming’s biggest names – such as Call of Duty Strike Team, Motorstorm, Battlefield, Need for Speed and Driveclub to name a few.

“The approach of uniting new game development teams with our in-house expertise is already delivering great results. This fusion of experience meets new talent, combined with a passion for bringing new ideas and games to market makes Fabrik different.”

The studio was actually founded in 2014 but has now surfaced with the announcement of its debut game: Filthy Lucre, a shooter in which players attempt to pull off various daring heists. The game is due on PS4, PC and PlayStation VR later in 2016.

A key selling point will be the studio’s AI tech, which the team claim ensures every mission plays our differently.

“Emergent AI means the world acts and reacts according to your actions,” said technical director Kieran D’Archambaud. “We’re allowing players to create their own unique ways to make a steal, with different experiences each time. The choices you make in-game have a consequence, your past actions cascade through the game world and will catch up with you.”

A second title is also in development, but will be announced at a later date.
