Renowned games writer and director Amy Hennig is to receive BAFTA’s prestigious Special Award.

Hennig is best known for her role as writer and creative director for the first three entries in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series, but has helmed a number of other prominent franchises during her 26-year career in games, including Crystal Dynamics’ Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain.

She most recently joined EA to serve as creative director and lead writer with Dead Space creator Visceral Games on the studio’s upcoming Star Wars title.

Other recipients of BAFTA’s Special Award include Minecraft maker Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, as well as filmmakers and TV and music legends such as Lenny Henry and Cilla Black. Oh, and the Chuckle Brothers.

Hennig will be presented with the accolade on June 12th – the week before E3 – at a BAFTA event in LA.

“Amy is one of the industry’s most successful and respected creative leaders, and we are thrilled to recognise her outstanding contribution through this special award – one of BAFTA’s highest accolades,” said Harvey Elliot, chairman of BAFTA’s games committee, in the announcement.

“Her work in the games industry spans nearly three decades, and throughout this illustrious career she has championed the importance of a game’s script, with this creative vision pervading all her work.”
