Senior members of three of development’s biggest success stories have united to form a studio of their own.

Fast Travel Games is a Sweden-based developer focused on “the next generation of VR storytelling”.

CEO and co-founder Oskar Burman previously founded the Stockholm arm of Angry Birds creator Rovio, which developed follow-up Angry Birds 2. Burman formerly worked at outlets including EA and Avalanche Studios.

Joining him is CTO Kristoffer Benjaminsson, who, following stints as the lead programmer at EA DICE and CTO at Easy Studios, became senior development director at Frostbite Labs, EA’s research-focused team.

Creative director Erik Odeldahl also served at DICE, acting as design director for recently released free-running sequel Mirror's Edge Catalyst, as well as designer and lead programmer on a number of the studio’s other projects.

The trio will be helped by a board of advisors including Daniel Kaplan, production director at Minecraft maker Mojang; Minecraft team director Peter Zetterberg from Microsoft; Avalanche Studios founder and CCO Christofer Sundberg; and Paradox Interactive COO Susana Meza Graham.

"We feel that VR offers limitless possibilities, and that its inherent qualities make it perfectly suited for storytelling and socially rich experiences," said Burman.

"We're looking to define a new genre of games for VR. Our games will focus strongly on narratively rich worlds full of possibilities for exploration and social gameplay, where players can cooperate, share worlds and experiences, and play together."
