Fun Bits, the dev behind Fat Princess Adventures and Escape Plan, is fighting a controversial new US law by promoting diversity in the games industry.

Last week, Mississippi governor Phil Bryant passed into law the ability for businesses in the state to refuse service to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals, based on their religious beliefs.

Subsequently, Fun Bits, which is based in Seattle, announced on its Facebook page a pair of college scholarship award grants to the sum of $1,000 each, specifically for LGBT students graduating this year and planning to study art or games design at a college or university outside of Mississippi.

Responding to criticism on its posts as to the value of the grant, Fun Bits said: “This is not a full ride scholarship, as we are simply not in that position, however this is pretty much free money to help passionate hard-working students pursue their dreams, without suffering through the backlash of laws marginalising their best efforts.”
