May is nearly upon us, meaning warmer weather and, more importantly, Droidcon Berlin! One of our favourite developer events of the year, Droidcon always has a great mix of developers, speakers, tech demos and social events.
The programme for the Berlin event on 8th-10th May has been released and some fantastic sessions have been revealed – here are our top five talks for Android devs:
1.AIDE – develop apps with an app
Developer wizards appfour will be showing people how to build a fully functional Android app using only their Android device. Sound too good to be true? We can assure you that this session will be worth a listen.
2.Adding high-end graphical effects to GT Racing 2
Super devs Gameloft have really pushed the boat out on their latest mobile game GT Racing 2, which features high-end visual effects such as light shafts, bloom, depth of field and heat haze. You can hear how they managed to achieve this with Intel’s Bay Trail platform.
3.Android on x86 platforms
There are now many Android devices out there running on Intel architecture – this session covers the tools and resources available to Android developers for their x86 apps. From emulators to in-game video recording and supporting multiple architectures, this is a must for any developers looking to target the broadest range of Android devices.
4.Understanding Android UI design patterns
If app design is your thing, this session might be worth a visit. Now that Android has introduced design guidelines, it’s important that developers know how and when to use them. Mobile app builders Snapp Solutions are keen to help you customise the design patterns to achieve a unique look without compromising usability.
5.How to bring compute intensive C++ based apps to Android
The aerospace industry is full of compute-intensive apps, as you can probably imagine. In this talk, Martin Siggel from the German Aerospace Center will take you through the process they used to bring a complex 3D aircraft geometry application from the desktop to Android.
Our final tip is stay tuned to @B_Fraedrich on Twitter for updates on Intel at Droidcon, including prizes, freebies and competitions at the show. Have fun!
