Yanis Varoufakis used to track the sales of Valve’s in-game microtransactions. Now he might be heading to the Greek parliament.

PCGamesN reports that Varoufakis, who used to be Valve’s in-house economist, is being tipped for the role of finance minister in the new Greek parliament.

Greece last night elected the far-left anti-austerity party Syriza into power on the remit of abolishing the European economic restrictions that have drastically affected the country’s economy.

Syriza subsequently formed a coalition agreement with The Greek Independents to form a majority government and now intends to renegotiate the terms of its European bailout, which were put into place following the country’s financial collapse in 2010.

Varoufakis was originally hired after Valve boss Gabe Newell was impressed by his blog discussing the Greek economy.
