Fortnite continues to climb as it hits 800k concurrent users

Epic Games’ Fortnite is continuing to excel following the launch of its free Battle Royale game mode just over a month ago. Over the last weekend, the game managed to hit over 800,000 concurrent users, which is more than Valve’s Dota 2 has at the time of writing.

The new game mode is available on PC, Xbox One and PS4 and sadly, there are no stats to show where the division of players are. The game doesn’t feature in Steam’s top 100 games at present for concurrent users as it isn’t available on Valve’s platform, so we sadly can’t compare it to any other titles at present or see where those users are. A representative from Epic Games informed us that "we have a strong player base across all platforms."

The game mode has had constant support and updates since launch. With the impending release of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Xbox One this December for $30, it will be interesting to see if this affects the userbase of Fortnite, which at present has no plans to charge for the game mode.

For the moment though, the game looks set to continue its incredible rise and, with the holiday season coming up, it will be interesting to see if it breaks the 1 million mark. Given when it was released, sandwiched between Destiny 2 and the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Call of Duty WWII shooters, it will also be intriguing to see how much of that player base remains, or if it grows.
