Gift key giveaway intended to solve problem of underactive servers

Free Steam Keys for select Gun Monkeys players

Gun Monkeys developer Six Five Games has begun giving away free Steam Keys for selected players, in order to sustain interest in its competitive 2D shooter.

Players that have trouble finding games on the server will now automatically receive free Steam Keys to gift to friends, developer Dan Marshall has said.

“It’s unique solution to a frustrating situation,” wrote Marshall on the developer’s website referring to the game’s servers being unable to sustain player numbers despite “universally positive reviews”.

“It’s infuriating, but the important thing to do now is to make sure the people who have bought the game can enjoy it as intended,” he wrote.

“The most frequent comment in my inbox at the moment is ‘this game is amazing, why aren’t more people playing it?’ Well, hopefully this move will bring in new interested players too, since they’ll always be able to play friends when servers are quiet.”

However, the promotion will only last for a short period, and keys are limited per player, Marshall added.

Last month, Marshall halved the game’s price and included two copies with every purchase as a means of making it more attractive to users.
