Gaikai, the cloud gaming service that allows users to stream games from high-power servers, is to launch on Facebook, the company’s CEO has said.
David Perry announced the move today at the Cloud Gaming Europe event in London, demonstrating how World of Warcraft can integrate into the social network’s pages.
Facebook has become a bedrock to online-focused games companies such as Zynga and EA. But the platform will no longer be limited to casual and social game types. The core is coming, he said.
“Our next big launch is on Facebook. We’re going to put real games on it,” Perry explained.
The move follows a string of deals for the cloud demos firm.
Gaikai’s streaming service is available on EA and Ubisoft’s official websites, as well as Walmart’s online store.
Perry said Gaikai’s biggest deal so far was for YouTube. He explained that customers could play a FIFA 12 demo within the leading video website.
Games companies “need to stop thinking about their website as the centre of the universe," he added.
"They need to spread their games across the web."
