Developers looking to secure their online presence will soon be able to register a .games domain.
The website address suffix has been purchased by provider Rightside, which highlighted the extension as a way to promote a studio or specific franchise.
"Our acquisition of .games is an exciting opportunity for game brands of all sizes, as well as individuals to buy an easy-to-remember online .games destination, and use it as a helpful online searching, positioning and branding tool," said CEO Taryn Naidu in a canned statement.
.games addresses are planned to open up for registration in Q3 2016, with Rightside saying its wholesale price will start at $12.
