The UK games industry raised more than half a million pounds for charity over the last year.

GamesAid has announced that a total of £564,000 has been collected by developers, publishers and more over the past 12 months, smashing previous records. The money was raised through a combination of events, such as the Brighton Poker Night, and Humble Bundles.

The total was also split between more charities than ever, with eight organisations each given £70,500. The partner charities this year were Accuro, Action for Kids, The Clock Tower Sanctuary, Lifelites, MAPS, Safe@Last, SpecialEffect and Jigsaw4U.

Since GamesAid launched eight years ago, the organisation has raised more than £1.7m for charity.

“2015 has been another incredible year for GamesAid” said GamesAid chair Emily Britt. “Once again we’ve raised more money, supported more charities and distributed bigger individual cheques than ever before.

“GamesAid only exists thanks to the energy, passion and fundraising efforts of the UK video games industry. Thank you so much for your support. You are simply amazing.”
