Expo organisers debut new 'Mobile Games World' space, and devote increased capacity to online

Gamescom 2012: More space for mobile and online

The organisers of Gamescom have confirmed that online and mobile companies will be given more dedicated space at the 2012 iteration of the show.

This year online games companies are to have their booths positioned in a new hall, offering a greater volume of space than at previous shows.

"We had a great deal of demand from online games companies looking for a bigger space this year, and so many new online exhibitors signing up, it made great sense to move our online space to a bigger hall," explained the events project manager Tom Endres, speaking today at a UK press event promoting Gamescom.

As well as increasing the space devoted to online gaming, this year’s Gamescom also introduces a new area dedicated to mobile. The Mobile Games World area, which shares a hall with the Gamescom Campus and e-Sports venues, is devotes to mobile and tablet titles and hardware.

"Previously the mobile companies were scattered through the show," said Endres. "This year we’ve built a dedicated, focused area for them, and there are many new exhibitors in the mobile space that I cannot announce yet."

"There will be four to five main companies in the area, and four or five smaller sized mobile companies."

Overall, the floor space of the 2012 is 15 per cent more than it was last year.

"Today, compared to the same time ast year, we have 40 per cent more confirmed exhibitors," revealed Endres

Taking place from August 15th to August 18th 2012 in Cologne, Germany, the next Gamescom show has already confirmed attending companies from 21 countries, including giants of the online, browser and mobile space such as Bigpoint, Gameforge, NCsoft, Nexon and Trion Worlds, as have EAS, Konami, Ubisoft and many other established publishers and developers.
