FTL: Faster Than Light and Cart Life were the big winners at the 2013 Independent Games Festival Awards last night.
The Seumas McNally Grand Prize and $30,000 was picked up by Richard Hofmeier for Cart Life, a title about food cart workers trying to achieve their dreams.
As well as the top accolade, Hofmeier also won Best Narrative and the Nuovo Award for abstract and unconventional games, picking up another $8,000 in the process.
Subset Games meanwhile won the Audience Award and Excellence in Design for FTL, netting $6,000 in prize money.
The award for Best Student Game went to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for high-speed skating game Zineth, while the Tomorrow Corporation was awarded the Technical Excellence prize for Little Inferno.
Rounding up the awards were Cardboard Computer, which picked up the accolade for Excellence in Visual Art for Kentucky Route Zero, and Jeppe Carlsen, who won the award for Excellence in Audio for his ‘beat-based’ platformer 140.
