Havok and Cocos2d also pledge further support for platform

GDC 13: Unity and Marmalade begin Windows Phone 8 beta testing

Development platforms Unity and Marmalade have both opened beta testing for Windows Phone 8.

Unity, which has now opened its beta to the public, also announced titles powered by its game engine such as Drift Mania Champions 2, Orcs Must Survive and Fling Theory would be coming to the platform.

Marmalade meanwhile, which had already begun an early beta for the platform in December for Professional and Plus license holders, has now started a new beta for its SDK. It also revealed that 6th Planet and Propel Man, ported from iOS and Android, would also be coming to Windows Phone 8.

Havok has also pledged its support for the platform as well as Windows 8 and Windows RT.

“At Havok, we are all about enabling immersive 3-D worlds, highly realistic and interactive character simulation, and cinematic visuals,” said Havok head of product management Andrew Bowell.

“The Windows Phone 8 platform provides the access Havok needs to really optimize down to the metal and to allow developers to create rich content and enhanced gameplay experience.”

A new version of 2D open source and cross-platform game engine Cocos2d-x has also been released for Windows Phone 8 aligned with the Cocos2d-x v2.1 API.
