As we enter the second half of this year's Game Developers Conference, virtual reality continues to grab the most headlines.

Most notably, Sony spoke up after almost a year of silence and unveiled the latest design of Project Morpheus, now due for release in the first half opf 2016.

Meanwhile, tech giant AMD announced its entry into the virtual reality space with LiquidVR, middleware firm demonstrated its new texture streaming tools for VR and wold famous special effects firm Weta Digital teamed up with Unreal Engine to create a virtual encounter with The Hobbit's Smaug.

With all this interest in virtual reality, it's small wonder Ubisoft has been swayed from it's original 'wait from 1m sales' stance and is now backing the Open Source VR platform.

Elsewhere, Nvidia made a splash with both its 4K Android microconsole and the new Titan X graphics card.
