Epic Games Korea inks agreement with MMO specialist NCsoft for future titles

GDC: Epic secures largest Asian UE3 deal yet

Epic Games’ Korean division has finalised a deal with MMO developer NCsoft that will see the latter use Unreal Engine 3 in its future titles.

Famous for MMOs including Lineage and Aion, NCsoft will initially use UE3 on its forthcoming martial arts -themed title Blade&Soul. Previously the studio used Unreal Engine 2 on 2001 online game Lineage II.

“It has been possible for us to harness all our energy and put it toward the creativity of the games themselves by developing Lineage II and Blade and Soul with Unreal Engine,” said Hyungjun Kim, vice president of NCsoft. “I believe we can pull the most out of the engine through the know-how that has accumulated through our experience with this superior game engine.”

“Equipping the brilliant creative minds at NCsoft with cutting-edge tools and features will bring even more visually stunning, high-quality entertainment to millions of players,” added Ray Park, territory manager of Epic Games Korea. “Already having worked more than a decade with NCsoft, we look forward to continuing our close cooperation with them for many more years to come.”

Epic Games Korea was established in 2009 in Seoul, and serves to both license and develop Epic technology, as well as support the company’s Asian customers.
