Middleware giant to update major software products over 2011

GDC11: Three Autodesk releases announced

Autodesk has announced the release of three new middleware products, global illumination software Autodesk Beast 2012, character animation tool Autodesk HumanIK 2012 and AI software Autodesk Kynapse 2012.

“The new Autodesk 2012 releases are significant enhancements to our existing middleware technology, which has been production-proven by many of the top developers in the industry today,” said Autodesk VP of games Marc Stevens.

“Our middleware solutions provide intuitive solutions to common runtime challenges and reduce the need for redundant development efforts to help developers face increased competition, rising development costs and greater time pressures.”

The new iteration of Autodesk Beast will allow developers to integrate the eRnsT interactive lighting preview tool into custom game level editors. It also features UE3 integration.

Autodesk HumanIK 2012 now supports the Sony NGPand Apple iOS.

The latest version of Kynapse has been designed so that navigation mesh algorithms can execute on a synergistic processing unit on PS3 development.

Autodesk has said that all three products will be made available over the spring period of 2011.
