Gearbox and 3D Realms settle Duke Nukem legal dispute

Lawsuit over game rights resolved via mediation

US studio Gearbox Software has reportedly settled its lawsuit against Duke Nukem creator 3D Realms.

The developer behind Duke Nukem Forever moved to sue 3D Realms in February 2014 over its creation of a new game in the series, to which Gearbox now has the rights. 3D Realms retains rights to previous Duke outings, but came under fire for developing Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, a top-down RPG.

Gamasutra reports a NeoGAF user has uncovered a settlement notice between the two firms, indicating that the matter has been resolved via mediation. The terms of the settlement have yet to be disclosed.

3D Realms previously sued Gearbox over unpaid royalties following the release of Duke Nukem Forever, then dropped the lawsuit three months later. The firm apologised and dubbed the situation a “misunderstanding”.
