The grant sees Geomerics partnered with Cambridge University for a joint research and development project looking into new visualisation techniques and compression technologies for animation.
Specifically, the two hope the collaboration will solve two problems facing those aiming for realism and believability in animation. The first is making sure that character skeleton animation has all the subtleties of real human movement – which is where the data compression part of the research comes in. The second is the correct skinning and lighting of character models using those skeletons.
Geomerics and Cambridge University will be using their expertise and IP in geometric algebra to address these issues in animation.
