Toronto-based mobile developer Get Set Games is the latest recipient of Epic Games’ Unreal Dev Grants, an initiative to help fund projects that show off Unreal Engine 4 and its capabilities.

The studio received $18,000 towards its mobile game Mega Blast, a 3D action platformer that sees a monster smashing and bombing his way through a series of grid-based levels.

“Mega Blast is our first 3D mobile game, and Unreal Engine 4 has allowed us to make that transition with ease,” studio co-founder Derek van Vilet said in an Unreal Blog post

“The Blueprint system has empowered our artists and designers to inject a whole new level of juiciness into [the game] world. Having free access to the full source of the engine has been invaluable for debugging, extending our toolchain and optimising Mega Blast for devices. The result is a game we’re extremely proud of.”

The Unreal Dev Grants initiative was launched at GDC and promises to give a total of $5m in funds to UE4 developers. So far, more than $71,000 has been awarded.
