Japanese web hosting outfit GMO Cloud has stepped in to save Marmalade SDK from their impending doom, gaining exclusive rights to both use and continue development on the software.
Back in September, Marmalade announced that they would be releasing their next and final update to the Marmalade Game Platform in March, before ceasing support for the platform. The deal announced today gives GMO Cloud exclusive rights to use Marmalade, and will enable the Japanese web hosts to work on the development for the platform as they see fit.
The Japanese company had previously worked with Marmalade to act as a reseller for their SDK in Japan back in 2015. Now it’ll be selling it in all territories as part of the agreement.
"We are very excited about GMO managing the development and distribution of the Marmalade SDK to enable our customers to continue building compelling content," said Marmalade CEO Bruce Beckloff in a statement.
Marmalade’s SDK has been used in several mobile and AAA titles including Peter Molyneux’s Godus and EA’s Sim City.
