The creative director behind God of War III has left Sony Santa Monica.

News of Stig Asmussen's departure was confirmed to IGN by Sony which said he was no longer at the company.

No reasons were given for his decision to leave. Asmussen is now reported already holding interviews at a number of other studios.

The developer has worked on God of War 1, 2 and 3, starting out as an environment artist on the first title before becoming art director and later creative director. He had been at the studio for 11 years.

It is believed Asmussen was working on a secret project at Sony Santa Monica, but that title may now have been cancelled following his departure.

Last month the studio laid off a number of employees after the decision to relocate its office from Santa Monica to Playa Vista.
