Momentum is building behind Google's Daydream, with supports suggesting the virtual reality platform's launch could be imminent.

Bloomberg sources claim the service could launch within the new few weeks, with a new Android update to add Daydream support due to roll out on Monday. The firm is also ramping up efforts to gather content and get creators on board to help promote the new system.

Daydream was announced back in May as the successor to Google Cardboard. Described as a "hybrid store and software service", Daydream aims to present mobile users with as much quality mobile virtual reality content as possible, with Google believing that mobile VR is the key to mass market penetration.

Google is investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in projects for Daydream, with "high six figure" sums going to games developers, while filmmakers and other creators are being offered "low five figures to low six figures". The firm is even working with YouTubers to create VR videos users will be able to watch at launch.

Daydream is expected to fully launch alongside new Android phones, VR headsets and controllers.
