Google has released their search trends of the year, meaning that the most popular games of the year — at least in terms of Google searches — have also been revealed. At the top of the tree isn't a triple-A sequel but instead a pair of free-to-play multiplayer games that run in a browser.
Triple-A does poke it's head in at various places through the list: Overwatch slips in at number 3, and after the surprising top results, much of the list is triple A, a series of continuations and sequels to big franchises. Five of the titles on the list are new franchises: Slither.io, Agar.io and Overwatch give us a trio of new franchises in the top spots, but controversial No Man's Sky and Blade and Soul also appear.
