New documentary seeks to expose sexual harassment of female gamers

GTFO: A Film About Women In Gaming hits Kickstarter

A new documentary called GTFO: A Film about Women in Gaming is seeking funds on Kickstarter to tell the story of the sexual discrimination faced by women gamers.

The project is lead by Shannon Sun-Higginson, and has ten days to raise the remaining $6,000 of its $20,000 goal.

"The purpose of this documentary is to reveal the experiences of women in the gaming world, both good and bad, as well as to provide steps we can take to change the environment for the better," writes Sun-Higginson on the campaign page.

"I have already filmed interviews, tournaments, classes, and conventions, but I need your help funding the remainder of the project."

A casual gamer, Sun-Higginson says she had been unaware of the problems her gaming friends had to deal with when they played online.

"I am just a casual gamer, so I was shocked about a year ago when a friend told me about the abuse that many female gamers and other industry figures endure on a daily basis," she writes.

"I immediately began researching and filming this documentary, titled "GTFO" in reference to the exclusionary response that many women encounter while gaming."

There are currently ten days left to fund the campaign.
